This is a wooden transit chest designed specifically for the Vickers machine gun tripod. The interior retains its original orange-painted finish and features the maker’s initials “F /I\ H” alongside a broad arrow acceptance stamp. A date or serial number, “1939,” is stamped on one external corner.
The stenciling on the front appears to be a British NATO inventory code. The Vickers machine gun remained in service until the 1960s. The chest includes an internal wooden leg divider and retains both of its rope carry handles.
