The Gewehr 98 (G-98 Mauser) is a German bolt-action rifle made by Mauser, firing cartridges from a five-round internal clip-loaded magazine. It was the German service rifle from 1898 to 1935, when it was replaced by the Karabiner 98k.

The Gewehr 98 saw service primarily in World War I, where it performed admirably. As with all contemporary bolt-action rifles of the period, it was a powerful and accurate weapon with long range. The action on the G98 was considered to be the bench mark for other bolt action rifles.
